How to play Water Sort
Water Sort is a color sorting puzzle with bottles that each hold four layers. Move the top color between bottles until every filled bottle contains a single color. Two empty bottles give you room to rearrange the layers, but using that space carefully is the main challenge.
The rules
- Select a bottle with a top layer you want to move.
- Select an empty bottle, or one whose top layer is the same color and has enough free space for a legal pour.
- Keep rearranging the layers until each filled bottle holds only one color and the remaining bottles are empty.
Controls
Click or tap a source bottle, then a destination bottle. A pour is only allowed when the destination has space and its top color matches, or when the destination is empty.
How scoring works
Each legal pour counts once, even when it moves several layers. Fewer pours is better. Undo restores the previous bottle arrangement but keeps the pour count, including pours you undo.
Tips for your next round
- Try to keep an empty bottle available while uncovering buried colors. Filling both spare bottles too early can leave you with few options.
- Combine exposed layers of the same color when possible, and check what color that move will uncover in the source bottle.
- Your unfinished round is saved in this browser. Return to the same game, mode, and difficulty to continue. A daily challenge uses the UTC date; clearing browser data removes saved rounds.
Why can’t I pour into a bottle with space?
Free space is only one requirement. Unless the destination is empty, its top color must also match the color you are pouring.
What changes with difficulty?
The smaller puzzle uses three colors, while the larger puzzle uses four. Both use four-layer bottles and two empty bottles for rearranging the colors.
