How to play Word Search

Word Search hides a themed list of words in a letter grid. Each word follows a straight horizontal, vertical or diagonal line. Scan the letters, locate each listed word and select its first and last letter to mark it as found.

The rules

  1. Read the word list and look for the first letter of a word in the grid.
  2. Trace a straight line through the remaining letters, then select the word’s first and last square.
  3. Mark every listed word to complete the puzzle. Use the smaller or larger grid to choose your challenge.

Controls

Tap or click the first letter and then the last letter. Either endpoint can come first. Tap the selected letter again to cancel. Words run in straight horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lines; found words remain highlighted.

How scoring works

Find all 6 words on the 8 × 8 Easy board or all 8 words on the 10 × 10 Standard board. Your active completion time in seconds is the result, with fewer seconds better. Pausing or hiding the tab stops the timer.

Tips for your next round

  • Search for an unusual letter or letter pair before scanning for a common starting letter.
  • When several words share letters, keep checking the crossing directions. Finding one word does not rule out another passing through it.
  • Your unfinished round is saved in this browser. Return to the same game, mode, and difficulty to continue. A daily challenge uses the UTC date; clearing browser data removes saved rounds.

Can a word turn a corner?

No. Every word runs in one straight horizontal, vertical or diagonal line. Select its two endpoints to mark the complete word.

Can words share a letter?

Yes. Two words can cross or overlap where their letters agree, so a square in a found word can still belong to another word in your list.
