How to play Tile Connect

Tile Connect is an open-board matching puzzle. All tiles are visible, so you can plan your pairs without memorizing hidden cards. Two identical tiles can be removed only when a clear path connects them with no more than two right-angle turns.

The rules

  1. Select one tile, then another tile with the same symbol.
  2. The pair disappears if a clear horizontal and vertical path can connect them with at most two turns.
  3. Remove pairs to open more paths. Clear every tile to finish, or use Shuffle when you need a different arrangement.

Controls

Tap or click a tile and then its matching partner. A connection may pass through the empty border around the grid. Hint outlines an available pair; Shuffle rearranges remaining tiles while preserving empty spaces.

How scoring works

Each pair earns 20 points. A hint costs 10 points and a shuffle costs 30, with scores never falling below zero. The board automatically shuffles with the same penalty if no legal pair remains. Clear all tiles to save your result.

Tips for your next round

  • Start with adjacent matching tiles or pairs along open edges. Removing them can unlock routes deeper in the board.
  • When a pair looks blocked, trace the possible corners of its route. A path may be short but still fail because it needs too many turns.
  • Your unfinished round is saved in this browser. Return to the same game, mode, and difficulty to continue. A daily challenge uses the UTC date; clearing browser data removes saved rounds.

Why won’t two identical tiles connect?

Matching symbols are not enough. Their connecting path must avoid other tiles and use no more than two right-angle turns.

Is this the same as Memory Match?

No. Tile Connect keeps every symbol visible and tests which pairs have a legal route. Memory Match hides the symbols and asks you to remember their positions.
