How to play Brick Breaker

Brick Breaker is a paddle-and-ball arcade game. Keep the ball above your paddle as it bounces around the playfield and strikes the bricks. Clear the remaining bricks to finish the round, and watch the return path before the ball reaches the bottom.

The rules

  1. Start the round and launch the ball toward the bricks.
  2. Move the paddle beneath the returning ball to keep it in play and send it upward again.
  3. Clear all bricks to win. Missing the ball costs a life; the run ends when you complete the challenge or use all three lives.

Controls

Drag on the board, move a mouse pointer, or hold the Left and Right buttons to move the paddle. Focus the board to use arrow keys and Space. Press Launch ball to start or use a remaining life. Pause stops the action, and returning to a saved round starts paused.

How scoring works

Each destroyed brick earns 10 points. Easy has 28 bricks and a wider paddle; Standard has 35 bricks, a narrower paddle, and a faster ball. Clear all bricks or use all 3 lives to finish. Personal bests are separate for each difficulty.

Tips for your next round

  • Watch the ball’s direction after each bounce and move toward its likely landing position early.
  • Keep your movement controlled near the bottom of the field. Last-second swings can move the paddle out of a safe return path.
  • Your unfinished round is saved in this browser. Return to the same game, mode, and difficulty to continue. A daily challenge uses the UTC date; clearing browser data removes saved rounds.

What happens when I miss the ball?

You lose one of your three lives. If lives remain, you can launch again and continue the run.

Can I play without a keyboard?

Yes. Touch controls let you move the paddle on a phone or tablet, and the launch control is available on screen.
